Exhibitions

Unicorn – A fabulous story

Unicorns fill shop shelves and children's rooms. The special exhibition "Unicorn – a fabulous story" shows that the mythical creature has fascinated people for centuries.

In 2023/24, Museum Aargau is presenting a small exhibition of objects with different meanings that have been attributed to the animal – from the Middle Ages to the present day. Among other things:

  • Components from medieval monasteries
  • A tooth of a narwhal traded as a unicorn horn
  • The book of an early modern scholar
  • A coat of arms disc
  • A package of vegan condoms

The exhibition thus provides an insight into the varied cultural history of the unicorn: between religious symbol, subject of scientific debate and popular cult object.
