Children's museum The children's museum is located right up in the attic of Lenzburg Castle. There are lots of secret nooks and crannies, hidden staircases and oriels to explore. Children can dress up as knights or princesses, chase around the corridors and practise handicrafts and painting to their heart's content. Children's exhibition PLIRRK In the children's exhibition PLIRRK!, kids can immerse themselves in the world of explorers. They'll learn from the castle's last inhabitant, polar explorer Lincoln Ellsworth, about the hardships he had to endure on his 1925 North Pole expedition, and find out how to prevent vitamin deficiency on the high seas and navigate the open waters. The exhibition is made by children for children with financial support from the "Friends of Lenzburg" association. Fun and excitement guaranteed! The historic vegetable cellar gives an interactive insight into the history of the garden and the work of ProSpecieRara. Kitchen garden and pleasure garden: rare variety The combined kitchen garden and pleasure garden at Wildegg Castle is the perfect place to stroll, smell the scents and marvel at the flora. Old, barely remembered vegetable varieties grow in the borders, while the flowers and shrubs fill the air with their fragrances. In collaboration with ProSpecieRara, old varieties such as the purple artichoke, skirret and tree onion are cultivated here. Stroll through the garden and appreciate the plant diversity of the 18th century! Vegetable cellar: a word with gardener Bruno In the historic vaulted cellar, where tools were once stored and plants wintered, you will now meet Julie von Effinger. In her talking portrait, the last lady of the castle discusses the latest developments in the castle garden with gardener Bruno. The vegetable cellar also showcases the work of the ProSpecieRara Foundation, which cultivates and propagates rare vegetable and ornamental plant varieties in the kitchen garden and pleasure garden. The Habsburgs established numerous towns and individual castles in what is now the canton of Aargau during the Middle Ages. They took over numerous fortifications from their sovereign predecessors, the Lenzburgs, Frohburgs and Kyburgs, and also held court at Lenzburg and Laufenburg castles. But who were the Habsburgs? How did they lay the foundations for a global empire, and how did they achieve royalty? The Habsburg Kings' Route tells the story of the Habsburg dynasty and their rise to global power at six audio points distributed throughout the castle. Permanent exhibition Admission Entrance free Construction and settlement history In the tower of the rear castle at Habsburg is a small exhibition on the buildings' construction and settlement history. A three-dimensional model as well as text and picture panels illustrate the structural development of Habsburg Castle. Objects and illustrations give an insight into everyday life in the castle, covering topics such as food, water supply and living conditions. Spread around the castle grounds there are also nine panels with information and sketches on the construction history, with interesting facts about individual buildings and phases in the castle's expansion.
