Please note: in April and October the boats only operate when the weather is fine. Information on the weather situation can be obtained from the boat company (in German). Notes on visiting the castle Dogs on the castle grounds Dogs may generally be taken into the castle courtyard on a leash but are not permitted inside the buildings. The management reserves the right not to admit dogs to the courtyard during special events , with the exception of assistance dogs for people with disabilities . Prams in the castle Prams are welcome in the courtyard, but not in the exhibition rooms. Lockers Small bags up to size A4 are permitted in the exhibition rooms. Vindonissa Legionary Trail

The bathhouse is part of a larger-scale complex outside the legionary camp. It was a public facility which could be used by residents and travellers on payment of a fee. The bathhouse is divided into cold, warm and hot bathing rooms. The Romans used an ingenious system to heat the floors and walls which was called the hypocaust. Remains of the system are clearly visible as are the baths themselves, which were filled with warm water and emptied via stone drains. The well-preserved colour wall paintings are a particularly attractive feature, dating back around 2,000 years. Today the bathhouse can be explored in hands-on fashion by visitors to the Legionary Trail and has been enhanced with lighting, fragrances and an exclusive "thermal finger bath". A visit to the baths was part of the Romans' everyday routine. They would meet, chat and relax as well as taking care of their personal hygiene. There were also sporting activities and massages with aromatic oils. In order to guarantee smooth operation of the baths to ensure basic hygiene, a functioning system of fresh water supply and effluent drainage was required, as well as sufficient fuel to heat the rooms and the baths themselves. Bathing guests were looking for a pleasurable experience, so Roman baths were often decorated with elaborate paintings, sculptures and monumental basins. The large bathhouse inside the legionary camp (thermae legionis) was much more lavishly equipped than the small bathhouse outside (balneum). Nothing remains of the larger facility today, but parts of its luxurious fittings can be viewed at the Vindonissa Museum. The baths can be visited with museum admission.

Directions to Hallwyl Castle Address Schloss Hallwyl – Museum Aargau 5707 Seengen Tel. 0848 871 200 Contact Arrival by public transport and car Arriving by train and bus From Lenzburg railway station, the "Seengen, Schloss Hallwyl" bus stop can be reached by Lenzburg regional bus (RBL) without changing. From Aarau, the "Seengen, Schloss Hallwyl" bus stop can be reached on the Wynental-Suhrental Railway (WSB), changing in Teufenthal and continuing by Lenzburg Regional Bus (RBL). The Seengen landing stage is only 10 minutes' walk from Hallwyl Castle. Hallwyl Castle can also be easily reached from Boniswil railway station (SBB line Lucerne-Lenzburg) in about 15 minutes and from the "Seengen, Poststrasse" bus stop in 10 minutes on foot. To the SBB timetable Arriving by car Hallwyl Castle is only about 15 minutes' drive from the A1 motorway, Lenzburg exit. Calculate route with Google Maps Parking In the immediate vicinity of the castle there are 180 paid parking spaces available. The walk from the car park to the castle takes about 2 minutes. There are also parking spaces for people with reduced mobility in front of the castle. Coach parking There are no official coach parking spaces available, but coaches can be parked across the marked parking spaces. As a rule, it is also possible to park beyond the barrier in the avenue leading to the castle.

For events especially, we recommend travelling by train and bus. From Brugg railway station, take bus lines 364 and 366 (towards Birr railway station, "Windisch, Gemeindehaus" stop) or lines 361, 362, 363 (towards Mellingen Heitersberg, "Windisch Zentrum" stop) to the Legionary Trail (Königsfelden Abbey barn / Legionary Trail visitor centre). The journey time is 2–3 minutes. You can also reach the visitor centre on foot from Brugg station. The route from the station is signposted. The walk takes about 15 minutes. To the SBB timetable Arriving by car The Vindonissa Legionary Trail can be reached via the A3 motorway (Brugg exit). From here the expressway leads to Windisch (approx. 10 minutes). Calculate route with Google Maps Parking Paid parking spaces are available at the Campus car park near Bahnhofstrasse. From there it is about 10 minutes to the Vindonissa Legionary Trail. There are no official parking spaces for people with reduced mobility on the Legionary Trail site. People with reduced mobility can park on the premises of Königsfelden Psychiatric Services. From there it is a 4-minute walk to the Legionary Trail visitor centre (Königsfelden Abbey barn). The path is level. Coach parking Two coach parking spaces are available on the premises of Königsfelden Psychiatric Services (at the Villa Rägebogen day-care centre). They are located directly adjacent to the Legionary Trail (visitor centre / Abbey barn).
